Count the hours you will use the extra space

If you expect to leave after breakfast and return late, a full kitchen may contribute little. If the group has different sleep schedules or plans slower mornings, a separate living area can matter more. Check the floor plan: a studio with a sofa is not the same as a separate bedroom.

Read the bed arrangement for every guest. A living room used as a bedroom changes privacy and shared space. Compare like with like instead of treating the maximum advertised occupancy as proof that everyone will be comfortable.

Compare services at the edges of the stay

Hotels may offer reception and luggage storage, but you still need to confirm the specific property's arrangements. Apartments can use remote check-in, timed key collection or a host meeting. An evening flight delay affects those options differently.

Ask what happens before check-in and after checkout. If you must pay for storage elsewhere and cross the city to collect bags, add that task to the apartment comparison. A shorter stay makes these arrival and departure details proportionally more important.

Read the kitchen and cleaning details

A kitchenette may contain only a kettle and microwave, or it may support full meals. Check the equipment you would genuinely use. Do not calculate grocery savings around cooking facilities that are not listed.

Understand any checkout tasks, cleaning fees and house rules before booking. Compare the full final total for the same dates and party size. A low nightly price can be misleading when a fixed charge is spread over only two nights.

Choose the support level you need

Consider how you would resolve a lock problem, a missing item or a late arrival. Look for a clear contact process, not merely a polished interior photograph. Verify the listing and payment channel, and do not move a transaction to an unexpected account at someone's request.

A hotel can suit a brief, arrival-heavy itinerary; an apartment can suit a group that will use the space. Neither format guarantees quality. Choose the particular property whose confirmed layout, access and total cost fit the trip rather than relying on the category alone.
