Confirm storage instead of assuming it

Ask the accommodation whether it can keep bags after checkout, at what cost and until what time. Check whether the storage is staffed or simply a shared space. A self-check-in apartment may offer no storage at all.

If using a separate locker or luggage service, verify the location, opening hours, size limits and retrieval process. A low price is not helpful if collection requires a long detour or the service closes before you return. Keep essential documents, valuables and items you need during the day with you.

Build the day backward from collection

Work out when you must retrieve the bags to reach the station or airport comfortably. Add the walk to storage and the time to collect them. Put that collection time into the itinerary as a firm appointment.

Choose an activity on the same side of the city or along the route back. A distant attraction can look possible when you count only the visit, but the return for luggage creates a second journey. Avoid a final afternoon that crosses the city several times.

Consider paying for a different arrangement

A late checkout may be useful if available and reasonably priced, especially when you want a rest or shower before a long trip. It is usually something to confirm, not assume. Compare it with storage and a simpler final-day plan.

An airport or station hotel day-use arrangement is another distinct product, not an entitlement attached to your departing flight. Read its access hours and inclusions if considering one. Do not plan around a room until the booking actually confirms it.

Keep the last activity flexible

A neighborhood walk, an unhurried meal or a smaller museum can fit better than a major timed attraction. Check bag policies if carrying even a daypack, and leave enough room to abandon the activity if transport changes.

Before leaving the accommodation, settle outstanding charges, return keys as instructed and confirm how you will regain access to stored bags. Then keep the retrieval receipt or code somewhere separate from the stored luggage. The final day feels much freer when the suitcase has a clear location and a clear collection time.
