Build the trip around the right ticket
If the Alhambra is the main reason for your visit, investigate its official ticket options before finalizing the day's other plans. Different tickets include different spaces. A palace admission time is not a flexible suggestion, and the route to the relevant entrance requires its own allowance. Read the official instructions about identification, bags and arrival rather than relying on an old itinerary or a reseller's summary.
The complex occupies a hill above the city, so plan the journey there as a separate stage. A route that looks attractively green on the map can still involve a sustained climb. Use the current local transport information if you would rather save your energy for the grounds. Afterwards, allow time to sit and eat before deciding whether any further uphill walking sounds appealing.
The Albaicín is another hillside, not an exit corridor
Across the valley, the Albaicín offers a different relationship with the Alhambra: lanes, houses and viewpoints looking toward it. Choose a modest route with one main viewpoint rather than trying to collect them all. The area has slopes, steps and irregular paving; check the route carefully if mobility or a stroller makes those difficult. A famous panorama can be busy, so avoid expecting a private sunset scene.
Walk respectfully through residential streets. Do not lean into private courtyards, photograph people at close range without permission or block narrow passages while arranging a group picture. The most rewarding details may be the shape of a street or a small public square, not another distant landmark checked off a list.
Use the lower center as a genuine part of the visit
Around the cathedral and the streets toward Plaza Nueva, the lower city provides a useful contrast to the hill routes. Give it unhurried time for a meal, a cultural visit or a short walk through shopping streets. This is a good arrival-day area because you can find your bearings without immediately committing to the trip's largest climb.
In wet weather, revise hillside plans rather than rushing down slick surfaces to recover a schedule. Keep an indoor option in the lower center and protect the Alhambra booking if you already have one. Granada does not need to become a contest in elevation: alternating its levels makes the architecture and landscape easier to absorb.
