Read the category, not just the property

Check the bed type, occupancy, floor area and bathroom arrangement attached to the selected rate. A double room can mean different bed configurations, and a sofa bed may change the usable space once opened. Enter every traveler and the correct ages before comparing results.

Look for photographs labeled with the exact category. A balcony, view or large desk elsewhere in the gallery does not establish that it comes with your booking. If the description is ambiguous, ask a specific question before choosing a nonrefundable rate.

Separate a request from a confirmed feature

Some booking systems distinguish guaranteed features from preferences submitted to the hotel. Marriott's help page explains that distinction within its own system. The broader lesson is to read the confirmation rather than treating a text box as a promise.

If two separate beds, a step-free room or a particular bathroom arrangement is essential, obtain explicit confirmation. A note saying preferred is not the same as a room category that includes the feature. Keep the answer with the booking details.

Check how the room works in practice

Consider where suitcases will open, whether a window faces a road or courtyard and whether the cooling or heating is independently controlled. Ask about seasonal operation if air-conditioning matters. A desk photo cannot tell you whether the chair can be used while the second bed is open.

For access needs, ask about the whole route from entrance to room and bathroom. An elevator in the building may not reach every floor or remove steps at the entrance. Dimensions and photographs are more helpful than a vague accessible label.

Review the rate one final time

Confirm the total, cancellation deadline, breakfast inclusion and any optional additions. Compare equivalent terms rather than a flexible rate at one hotel with a restricted offer at another.

Read the final confirmation immediately after booking, while errors are easier to identify. The point is not to demand every possible feature. It is to ensure that the few details essential to your stay are attached to the room you actually bought.
