Saturday: the center at street level

Begin near the central market area, checking trading hours if you want to shop or eat while stalls are operating. Continue through selected old-town streets toward the cathedral surroundings. Choose one interior if it interests you, but leave the route loose enough for a café or a square that catches your attention. The morning should not depend on completing a sequence of unrelated reservations.

After lunch, walk toward the Serranos Towers and enter a manageable section of the Turia Gardens. Choose where you will leave the former riverbed before descending into it. The park is long, so this is an interval of green space rather than an attempt to walk all the way to every modern landmark. Return to the center for dinner without another major cross-city journey.

Sunday: travel to the maritime neighborhoods

Use current transit information to reach El Cabanyal and the beachside area. Start with neighborhood streets before moving to the promenade, so the coast is not reduced to a strip of sand. Choose a lunch location and a suitable return connection. The open waterfront can feel hot or windy, and a long walk is optional even in good weather.

If the City of Arts and Sciences is your main interest, use it instead of part of the coastal outing. Select one attraction or enjoy the exterior architecture; do not assume all its institutions can be visited in a spare hour. Keep the trip back for luggage and onward travel separate from the sightseeing estimate.

Two sensible substitutions

For persistent rain, replace Saturday's garden segment with an indoor collection in or near the historic center. If Sunday is unsuitable for the coast, a planned visit at the science complex can become the main activity, subject to availability and opening arrangements. Make that choice deliberately rather than buying several admissions in advance and hoping the weekend will expand to fit them.

This schedule leaves Albufera and other excursions for a longer stay. Old-town detail, a small piece of the Turia and the maritime neighborhood already create three different settings. The benefit of a weekend in Valencia is that you can enjoy those contrasts while still having time to sit down between them.
