Begin with the crossing, not a queue

From the Old Town side, approach Charles Bridge and cross toward Malá Strana. An early start can give the walk more breathing room, although it cannot guarantee an empty bridge. Stop where there is room rather than in a narrow flow of pedestrians. Once across, continue into the Lesser Town and pause before deciding how much climbing the morning should include.

The castle district sits above the river. If walking uphill suits you, make the ascent a deliberate part of the route rather than an unnoticed connector between bookings. If it does not, check a suitable public-transport approach with the operator. Do not assume that a stair shortcut shown on a map is a step-free route.

Keep the first afternoon on the same side

Choose one castle-area interior if that is a priority and confirm its admission arrangements. Otherwise, use the streets and viewpoints as the main experience, leaving time for a meal and the descent. Avoid adding several ticketed interiors solely because they are nearby; visiting them properly can change the whole day's pace.

Return toward the lower streets and river rather than setting a distant evening appointment. If the weather deteriorates, shorten the outdoor section and use a confirmed indoor visit already on this side of the city. Do not make the fallback a long cross-city dash that recreates the problem the route was designed to avoid.

Give the Old Town its own morning

On day two, start with Old Town Square and explore the surrounding streets before moving toward Josefov if its history and institutions interest you. Check the particular sites' opening days and visitor rules. A neighborhood walk and a visit to several historic interiors are different commitments; choose the one that matches your available time.

Keep lunch and the final walk within a manageable distance of your luggage collection point. This weekend leaves distant excursions and an exhaustive museum schedule for another visit. The result is not a complete inventory of Prague, but two connected days with a clear understanding of which side of the river you are on and how the hill affects your energy.
